History

Renaissance Productions and Tours was founded by its President, Thomas L. Saunders in 1990, when he presented his research entitled "The Unveiling of the Contributions of African- Americans to Maryland's Horse Racing Industry" at Pimlico Race Course. This event recognized African- Americans of Maryland who made outstanding contributions to the horse racing industry as trainers, jockeys, clockers, owners and grooms. It was at this time that Saunders became aquainted with the late Dr. Thelma Banks-Cox, founder of The African-American Heritage Society who trained him as a tour guide to conduct the original "Black Landmarks Tour of Baltimore". Saunders states, "I honor her legacy by continuing to conduct the "Black Landmarks Tour of Baltimore".
